KELLS Seattle’s Irish Restaurant & Pub 1916 Post Alley, Seattle, WA 98101 Not the Friendliest of Welcomes…
TheBrits.com went on a trip to Washington and Canada in search of Great Brit Businesses. We e-mailed ahead to let a few places know of our visit. We were hoping for an interview and review of their establishment. One of the places we were looking forward to visiting was Kells Irish restaurant & Pub. We had read and heard some good things so expected some nice results. On our arrival, I decided to talk to a manager about our visit and about TheBrits.com. I asked a barmaid if there was a manager I could talk to. She pointed me in the direction of Laoise Brogan…
Now, TheBrits.com are sometimes known for their surprise visits and undercover reviews, but with Kells, we made contact ahead of time. I approached Ms. Brogan with a beaming smile and a business card in hand. I asked “Hello, are you the manager?” her reply, “Depends why you want to know”. Not exactly service with a smile, and I guess if I had a valid complaint, she would have told me to go elsewhere, but I didn’t. I told her I was here to review her establishment and take some photos if I may. She said, ” Well, I am the manager but I’m too busy”.
The 3 or 4 customers propping up the bar must have had her rushed off her feet for the last six hours, that’s how long they looked like they’d been there. Frankly, we were not impressed with Ms. Brogans attitude, especially when a review on TheBrits.com was in the offering. To be honest, I felt immediately uncomfortable. I really wanted to give a review of Kells, as we had heard of it in Dallas. I didn’t stay to try anything off the menu, or sample a beverage.
The pub was traditional looking, a lot older than some theme pubs in that area, the regulars look REAL regular.
I left disappointed.
